There were reports of gunfire at about 4:45 a.m.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/watch\/live\/11064984\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24\/7. Click here to watch<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement, &#8220;On the morning of October 20, an FPS Protective Security Officer reported an active shooter on Federal property near the John C. Kluczynski Federal Building in Chicago, IL. FPS personnel and the Chicago Police Department responded. Local police took the subject into custody. There were no injuries reported, only minor damage to federal property. As this is an active and ongoing investigation, additional information will be limited until concluded.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Chicago police said a male suspect was taken into custody, a gun was recovered from the scene and charges are pending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A spokesperson for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said there is no active threat and the Dirksen Federal Courthouse remains open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">All morning, police canvassed the area for evidence, at one point appearing to focus on this ramp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The plaza is home to several federal offices, including the Post Office, the Dirksen Courthouse, the Kluczynski Federal Building, and the General Services Administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Authorities confirming those sites sustained only minor damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC eTIW sUzSN \">Across the street, at least two bullet holes in the side of this office building just above the busy sidewalk below.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2026 WLS-TV.
