\n\t\u201cYoung Sheldon<\/a>\u201d actor Iain Armitage<\/a> might\u2019ve become a star thanks to the hit CBS sitcom, but when it came time to call it quits<\/a> on the seven-season series in 2024, he admits he was the cast member \u201cthe most happy about the show ending.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview featured in Jessica Radloff\u2019s oral history, \u201cYoung Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw\u2019s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy\u201d (via US Weekly<\/a>), Armitage, who played the titular character, said he wasn\u2019t \u201cgoing home and crying all day\u201d like some of his co-workers at the news of the series ending. He also added that it was \u201cheavy and annoying and weird\u201d to be in a state of mourning around \u201cYoung Sheldon,\u201d and he refused to \u201cstay in that heaviness forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPlus, I wanted to be in Virginia. I wanted to be traveling, and I\u2019m happy to do whatever movie comes up. And my mom has always imbued me with a very healthy sense of ephemerality, and the fact that nothing good can last and everything changes, and that\u2019s a good thing,\u201d he said. \u201cI would hate to be on a show playing 23-year-old Sheldon. That would suck. I wouldn\u2019t want to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tArmitage<\/a> was just eight years old when the series began, and now, two years since it ended, he said he it\u2019s \u201cnostalgic sad\u201d to look back. \u201cI miss working at Warner Bros., I miss the crew and the people I love. I love the act of acting. I love doing it. It\u2019s fun. But not really specific moments. More the overall thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnd Iain was ready, too \u2026 to move on to something else, artistically, and maybe personally \u2026 with things that boiled up a little bit toward the end of the season,\u201d said Lance Barber, who played George Sr., Sheldon\u2019s dad, in the book. \u201cI think a lot of people felt there were certain elements of the show that they were ready to move on from.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a previously released excerpt of Radloff\u2019s novel, Armitage said that while it was a \u201ccomplete privilege\u201d to be on the show, it was a \u201cbig undertaking for an 8-year-old.\u201d<\/a> \u201cI always did the best that I could, and sometimes kids are not perfect,\u201d he continued. \u201cI was grateful to the people who understood that and gave me grace.\u201d<\/p>\n
