\n\tAaron Carter<\/a>\u2018s estate has reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0filed on behalf of his toddler son against Walgreens and another pharmacy over the singer\u2019s\u00a0drug-linked drowning<\/a>\u00a0in 2022.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a court filing obtained by Rolling Stone, an attorney for Carter\u2019s estate said that they had \u201creached a settlement resolving all claims\u201d between Walgreens and Santa Monica Medical Plaza Pharmacy. The settlement does not include the estate\u2019s claims against dentist Jason Mirabile, which remain pending.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are pleased to have reached a mutually agreed-upon resolution with the pharmacy defendants,\u201d the estate\u2019s lawyer, Marc Lazo, said in a statement to Rolling Stone. \u201cWhile the terms of the settlement remain confidential, we are satisfied that the matter has been resolved as to those parties and appreciate the opportunity to bring this matter to a conclusion for the sake of Mr. Carter\u2019s young son.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAttorneys for Walgreens did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lawyers for Santa Monica Medical Plaza Pharmacy declined to comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarter, the younger brother of\u00a0Backstreet Boys<\/a>\u00a0member\u00a0Nick Carter<\/a>, was found dead<\/a> in his bathtub at his home in Lancaster, California, in November 2022. The following year, Carter\u2019s former fianc\u00e9e, Melanie Martin, filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of their minor son and Carter\u2019s sole heir, Princeton \u201cPrince\u201d Lyric Carter. The case faced a slew of legal challenges before a Los Angeles County judge ruled last year that Princeton\u00a0had a right to a jury trial\u00a0<\/a>over claims that two doctors and the pharmacies \u201coverprescribed\u201d and supplied the pop star with \u201cexcessively high and unreasonably frequent amounts\u201d of Xanax before he drowned.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn May, Carter\u2019s estate settled with Dr. John Faber, who was sued through his psychiatry practice, Amen Clinics, and agreed to pay a \u201cconfidential sum\u201d to fully resolve the allegations against him. Lawyers for Faber\u2019s clinic said the parties agreed that general damages in the case were capped at $650,000 due to California\u2019s Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act (MICRA), the state law that limits noneconomic damages in medical malpractice cases. Amen\u2019s attorneys maintained in the May filing that the clinic followed all standards of care and that the artist\u2019s death was caused not by Xanax, but by his inhalation of difluoroethane from canisters.<\/p>\n
