Oct 22 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Canadian jet maker Bombardier was investing $270 million in the United States, \u200cdays after he dropped threats to ban the company from the country. <\/p>\n
Trump’s \u200cSeptember threats against Bombardier became a political issue in Kansas, where it employs 1,500 people \u200bin Wichita. The threatened ban prompted calls to the White House from Kansas lawmakers, including Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who is facing a tough race in the November 3 elections. <\/p>\n
In a Truth Social post late on Thursday, Trump \u200csaid Bombardier’s investment would create \u2060thousands of jobs in Kansas, Texas, and Indiana, and credited Marshall along with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the \u2060deal. <\/p>\n
“Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas has done an incredible job in representing his Great State! Because of him, working together with the Trump Administration, Bombardier is \u200binvesting \u200b270 MILLION DOLLARS, creating THOUSANDS of American \u200bJobs in Kansas, Texas, and \u200cIndiana,” he said. <\/p>\n
“Senator Marshall, together with Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas, has done an incredible job in getting this Deal done.” <\/p>\n
Bombardier, which announced a $50 million investment in Wichita last week, did not respond to a request for comment on the investment details announced by Trump. <\/p>\n
At a speech in Wichita \u200con Monday, Trump had said he did \u200bnot plan to hurt Bombardier and would take \u200bcare of its workers. <\/p>\n
“… \u200bnow I find out they have a presence here, and \u200cwe’re not hurting them if they’re \u200bin Kansas. So \u200bwe’ll take care of those people and the jobs,” the president said in that speech. <\/p>\n
In February, Trump had threatened to decertify Bombardier aircraft \u200bover a certification dispute \u200cinvolving rival Gulfstream Aerospace. That threat never materialized because Transport \u200bCanada ultimately approved the jets. <\/p>\n
