GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Dave Phillips was the man behind home plate during the 1982 World Series, the last time Milwaukee appeared in the Fall Classic.

He said this 2026 team reminds him a lot of the 1982 team. Phillips had to be in the MLB for six years to get that special call and so happened he got it in that sixth year and three other times. 1976, 1987 and 1993.

32 years in the business, he loved that pressure and he’ll never forget those World Series moments. He said he vividly remembers driving up Milwaukee Avenue to a cloud of smoke thinking the stadium was fire, but it was actually fans barbecuing.

Phillips said the 1982 year was his favorite.

“It was basically two beer drinking cities and I know that sounds funny to say but you had two cities that were just enjoyed baseball, fans were there, it wasn’t politicians, it wasn’t actors, it wasn’t big time people, it was the people who enjoyed it and it was the fans,” Phillips said. “My heart is in Milwaukee and I love seeing them in it again and they seem to have a great team I mean they just haven’t looked back and when you can play the Dodgers and sweep them, that’ making a gigantic statement.”

Phillips said if he got the call to cover another World Series, he said his mind would allow him but his body wouldn’t hold up as he said it with a smile. He said he never worked a day in his life and he would do it all over again.

[65
363,99
post-891734","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mlb","tag-mlb","tag-sports
["GET
