{"id":892282,"date":"2026-10-23T20:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T20:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/892282\/"},"modified":"2026-10-23T20:38:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-23T20:38:11","slug":"roger-goodell-expects-an-nfl-game-in-tokyo-in-2027-or-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/892282\/","title":{"rendered":"Roger Goodell expects an NFL game in Tokyo in 2027 or 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expects a game in Tokyo soon.<\/p>\n<p>Goodell, who is currently in Paris as the league prepares to play its first game there, said that the first regular-season game in Japan is coming in 2027 or 2028.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/commissioner-goodell-teases-future-tokyo-game-sees-new-opportunities-for-international-growth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tokyo is clearly on our list<\/a>, whether it\u2019s next year or the year after. It\u2019s coming at some point in the near future. We\u2019re going to continue to focus on our priority markets, which a lot of them they\u2019ve been in, but there are other cities; this year, we went to Rio rather than S\u00e3o Paulo,\u201d Goodell told Gregg Rosenthal and Jourdan Rodrigue on NFL Daily.<\/p>\n<p>Goodell said the successful NFL game in Australia in Week 1 showed that the league can play anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn a Friday morning at 10:30, to have 100,000 people in the stadium, it was just an incredible feeling for us. I think it\u2019s opened up new opportunities for us,\u201d Goodell said. \u201cThe travel is something we think we can manage and do it without impacting negatively on the teams. So, each of these we learned something from and we benefit and we also open those other doors. We\u2019re planning on playing global. That\u2019s where we\u2019re going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL is about as popular as a sport could be in the United States, which means the NFL sees foreign markets as the key to the league\u2019s continued growth.
