An attorney representing the trustee overseeing Nick Reiner\u2019s trust<\/a> is asking a judge to release $300 so he can purchase basic items behind bars while awaiting trial for the murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, Lauriann Wright, who represents successor trustee Jodi Pais Montgomery, requested that the relatively small amount be deposited into Nick\u2019s jail commissary account.<\/p>\n

Wright described the request as a \u201cquality of life issue,\u201d stressing that the $300 was a small amount compared to the much larger sum at the center of the ongoing legal battle.<\/p>\n

The request comes as Nick awaits trial for the murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, pictured above in December 2013. michelereiner\/Instagram<\/p>\n

The request comes as the 33-year-old continues fighting for access to approximately $1.5 million held in the Nick Reiner Children\u2019s Trust, which was established by his late parents in 1993.<\/p>\n

As Page Six previously reported, Nick\u2019s attorneys claimed in September that he had not received \u201ceven $5\u201d<\/a> from the trust to purchase basic necessities while incarcerated.<\/p>\n

His lawyers argue that he was entitled to receive half of the trust\u2019s assets when he turned 30 in September 2023, more than two years before his parents\u2019 death.<\/p>\n

According to court filings, at least $558,000 was due to Nick \u2014 who has been\u00a0diagnosed with schizophrenia<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0at the time, his attorneys claimed.<\/p>\n

However, Wright previously argued that California\u2019s Slayer Statute prevents Nick from accessing the funds because he has been charged with murdering his parents.<\/p>\n

Per Justia Law<\/a>, the statute prevents a \u201cperson who feloniously and intentionally kills the decedent\u201d from gaining access to \u201cproperty, interest, or benefit under a will of the decedent, or a trust created by or for the benefit of the decedent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wright also argued that releasing the funds before Nick\u2019s criminal case is resolved could be \u201cirreversible,\u201d and that his share of the trust should instead go to his siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nick\u2019s attorneys have pushed back, arguing that the funds were owed to him years before his parents were killed and therefore should not be subject to the statute.<\/p>\n

The dispute has also affected Nick\u2019s efforts to hire private criminal defense counsel.<\/p>\n
