(WPMI) \u2014 The Alabama Department of Environmental Management stopped work at a construction site in Elberta due to stormwater runoff concerns <a href=\"https:\/\/mynbc15.com\/news\/local\/muddy-mess-runoff-raises-wildlife-and-water-quality-concerns-in-elberta\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/mynbc15.com\/news\/local\/muddy-mess-runoff-raises-wildlife-and-water-quality-concerns-in-elberta\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">we told you about Wednesday. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Below is the press release issued by ADEM:<\/p>\n<p>ADEM Issues Cease Order to Elberta Subdivision Developer Due to Improperly Managed Stormwater Runoff, Requires Corrective Actions<\/p>\n<p>ELBERTA, AL \u2013 The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) today issued a cease-and-desist order to Wilkes Construction Company, Inc., because of improperly managed stormwater runoff into Moccasin Bayou from the construction site of a subdivision the company is developing in Elberta.<\/p>\n<p>ADEM\u2019s cease and desist order mandates the operator to \u201cimmediately cease all construction, building, production, and related activity\u201d at the site other than BMP implementation\/maintenance and sediment removal\/remediation. All other construction and related activity are not authorized to resume until approved in writing by ADEM.<\/p>\n<p>The order also requires the operator to take immediate action to prevent, to the maximum extent practicable, sediment and other pollutants in stormwater leaving the site and prevent noncompliant and\/or unpermitted discharges of pollutants to waters of the state.<\/p>\n<p>ADEM will determine additional enforcement actions at a later date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ELBERTA, Ala.
