Meta, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/07\/11\/how-much-ai-salary-meta-zuckerberg-200-million-compensation\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/07\/11\/how-much-ai-salary-meta-zuckerberg-200-million-compensation\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">for example<\/a>, is dishing out $100 million signing bonuses to woo top OpenAI researchers. Others are scrambling to retain staff with massive bonuses and noncompete agreements.<\/p>\n<p>With such a seemingly small pool of researchers with the savvy to usher in new waves of AI developments, it\u2019s no wonder salaries have gotten so high. That\u2019s why one tech executive said companies will need to stop \u201crecycling\u201d candidates from the <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/03\/15\/ai-talent-wars-startups-google-meta-openai-hiring-scientists-stock-salaries\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/03\/15\/ai-talent-wars-startups-google-meta-openai-hiring-scientists-stock-salaries\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">same old Silicon Valley and Big Tech<\/a> talent pools to make innovation happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s different biases and filters about people\u2019s pedigree or where they came from. But if you could truly map all of that and just give credit for some people that maybe went through alternate pathways [then you can] truly stack rank,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellosky.ai\/our-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.hellosky.ai\/our-team\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\">Alex Bates<\/a>, founder and CEO of AI executive recruiting platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellosky.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.hellosky.ai\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\">HelloSky<\/a>, told Fortune. <\/p>\n<p>(In April, HelloSky announced the close of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/hellosky-announces-5-5m-oversubscribed-seed-round-crosses-1m-arr-and-expands-executive-team-302435288.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/hellosky-announces-5-5m-oversubscribed-seed-round-crosses-1m-arr-and-expands-executive-team-302435288.html\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\">$5.5 million oversubscribed seed round<\/a> from investors like Caldwell Partners, Karmel Capital, True, Hunt Scanlon Ventures as well as prominent angel investors from <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/alphabet\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/alphabet\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Google<\/a> and Cisco Systems).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why Bates developed HelloSky, which consolidates candidate, company, talent, investor, and assessment data into a single GenAI-powered platform to help companies find candidates they might not have otherwise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many tech companies pull from previous job descriptions and resume submissions to poach top talent, explained Bates, who also authored <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Augmented_Mind.html?id=b-_mwgEACAAJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Augmented_Mind.html?id=b-_mwgEACAAJ\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\">Augmented Mind<\/a> about the relationship between humans and AI. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg even reportedly maintains a <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/07\/01\/mark-zuckerberg-meta-superintelligence-lab-team-list-openai-edgar-perez\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/07\/01\/mark-zuckerberg-meta-superintelligence-lab-team-list-openai-edgar-perez\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">literal list<\/a> of all the top talent he wants to poach for his Superintelligence Labs and has been heavily involved in his own company\u2019s recruiting strategies.<\/p>\n<p>But the AI talent wars will make it more difficult than ever to fill seats with experienced candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Even OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently lamented about <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/08\/09\/sam-altman-ai-talent-war-pay-offers-superintelligence-discoveries-meta\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/08\/09\/sam-altman-ai-talent-war-pay-offers-superintelligence-discoveries-meta\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">how few candidates AI-focused companies<\/a> have to pull from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bet, the hope is they know how to discover the remaining ideas to get to superintelligence\u2014that there are going to be a handful of algorithmic ideas and, you know, medium-sized handful of people who can figure them out,\u201d Altman recently told CNBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018moneyball\u2019 for finding top talent<\/p>\n<p>Bates refers to his platform as \u201cmoneyball\u201d for unearthing top talent\u2014essentially a \u201ccomplete map\u201d of real domain experts who may not be well-networked in Silicon Valley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Using AI, HelloSky can tag different candidates, map connections, and find people who may not have as much of a social media or job board presence, but have the necessary experience to succeed in high-level jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The platform scours not just resumes, but actual code contributions, peer-reviewed research, and even trending open-source projects, prioritizing measurable impact over flashy degrees. That way, companies can find candidates who have demonstrated outsized results in small, scrappy teams or other niche communities, similar to how the Oakland A\u2019s Billy Beane joined forces with Ivy League grad Peter Brand to reinvent traditional baseball scouting, which was depicted in the book and movie Moneyball.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a \u201cbig unlock for everything from hiring people, partnering, acquiring whatever, just everyone interested in this space,\u201d Bates said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of hidden talent globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HelloSky can also sense when certain candidates \u201cembellish\u201d their experience on job platforms or fill in the gaps for people whose online presence is sparse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe they said they had a billion-dollar IPO, but [really] they left two years before the IPO.
