‘Lagaan’ plot, director and cast: Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh and Rachel Shelley<\/p>\n

Released in 2001, ‘Lagaan’ is a Hindi period sports drama helmed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan. The story unfolds in late 19th-century colonial India, where the villagers of Champaner in Gujarat, struggling through a drought, accept a cricket challenge from British officers to get out of paying the crushing tax known as lagaan. Aamir Khan stars as Bhuvan, who leads the village team despite barely knowing the sport. Gracy Singh plays Gauri, and Rachel Shelley appears as Elizabeth Russell, the sister of Captain Andrew Russell, played by Paul Blackthorne. Elizabeth ends up teaching the villagers how to play the game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"As ‘Lagaan’ completes 25 years, Rachel Shelley, who portrayed Elizabeth Russell in the film, has shared pictures from…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":896169,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[52],"tags":[102649,375767,88,375768,206,325484,375769],"class_list":["post-896168","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-movies","tag-aamir-khan-lagaan","tag-ashutosh-gowariker-director","tag-entertainment","tag-lagaan-25-years","tag-movies","tag-rachel-shelley","tag-rachel-shelley-lagaan"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/896168","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=896168"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/896168\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/896169"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=896168"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=896168"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=896168"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
