It was a relatively easy decision after Jones had a rough outing against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">That wasn\u2019t the only time Jones struggled this season. In Week 3, Jones gave up 53 yards in coverage on five targets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Atlanta picked on Jones in coverage. He allowed four of his five targets to be completed for 49 yards, allowing a passer rating of 107.5. In five games this season, Jones was targeted over 30% of the time when he was on the field. Teams were not scared of him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Against Atlanta, Jones allowed 5.8 yards of separation on five targets. Add in the penalties, and he became unplayable, since the run defense and tackling were a struggle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">With Upton Stout out, Deommodore Lenoir moved to nickel, and Jones played Lenoir\u2019s boundary role in obvious passing situations. Once Jones was benched, the Niners turned to rookie Ephesians Prysock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">The 49ers will actually save money by releasing Jones, according to Over the Cap. He signed a one-year deal, and the contract has no guaranteed money beyond what appears to be a $140,000 signing bonus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Cornerback Nate Hobbs remains on the injured reserve.
