UNION COUNTY, Ill. \u2014 Due to unseasonably warm weather,\u00a0Forest Service Road No. 345 \u2014 also known Snake Road \u2014 will remain closed for an additional week, allowing the slithering creatures to safely complete their migration.<\/p>\n
Snake Road is part of the LaRue-Pine Hills\/Otter Pond Research Natural Area and closes every year to facilitate the snakes’ migration<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0their summer habitat in LaRue Swamp to their winter habitat in the limestone bluffs.\u00a0According to the\u00a0U.S. Forest Service, the road will now remain closed until Nov. 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n The closure prohibits vehicles from using the road but allows foot traffic, so long as visitors are respectful.
