\n\t\u201cObsession<\/a>\u201d director Curry Barker<\/a> is not only a fan of \u201cYou Can See Everything<\/a>,\u201d but he\u2019s already reached out to Nathan Fielder<\/a> about working together.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI thought it was freakin\u2019 insane and awesome,\u201d Barker told Variety Thursday night at the Time100 Next Gala at Pier59 Studios . \u201cI didn\u2019t know much about [Elizabeth Holmes\u2019] story going into it. I feel like I missed certain tiny things, but it was three hours long and I wished it was longer. That\u2019s rare, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked about potentially collaborating with Fielder, the \u201cObsession\u201d director revealed he\u2019s already floated the idea to him: \u201cI told him that. I said, \u2018Hey!\u2019 \u2026 I just put it out in the water.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou Can See Everything\u201d blurs the line between narrative and documentary storytelling and, as Variety\u2019s chief awards editor Clayton Davis puts it<\/a>, has \u201cturned the movie landscape topsy-turvy.\u201d Much like Barker\u2019s \u201cObsession,\u201d the film has left the industry re-examining what kinds of movies resonate with Gen Z audiences \u2014 and, more importantly, what drives them out to the theaters.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt felt new, fresh, different,\u201d Barker said of \u201cYou Can See Everything.\u201d \u201cYou almost can\u2019t even call it a documentary, but it totally is. I\u2019m just a huge fan of what [Fielder] is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBarker should have plenty more chances to cross paths with Fielder on the awards circuit, as both their films continue to earn recognition alongside some of the year\u2019s most acclaimed films.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe events are really cool,\u201d Barker said. \u201cI did the Academy Gala and I was just blown away. I mean, every direction you look is someone that you\u2019ve seen your entire life on social media, and you\u2019re like, \u2018Holy cow, this person\u2019s here. This person\u2019s here.\u2019 That was a crazy experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut one celebrity encounter in particular left Barker starstruck: Emma Watson.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was a huge \u2018Harry Potter\u2019 fan growing up, and I saw Emma Watson and I froze,\u201d Barker recalled. \u201cIt\u2019s so weird, I\u2019m meeting all of these people that I really look up to, but there\u2019s something different about when it\u2019s someone from your childhood that really means a lot. That changes where you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, woah.\u2019 I was totally weird to her. I was trying to play it cool. But I did not play it cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBarker was honored alongside Raye, Druski, Paapa Essiedu<\/a> and several other Hollywood rising stars at Time100 Next. The night kicked off with an intimate performance from Raye, who performed a jazzy rendition of \u201cCry Me a River\u201d and \u201cHappier Times Ahead<\/a>.\u201d Himesh Patel, Alex Warren and several other nominees made toasts throughout the night, but Ashley Padilla of \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d fame got the biggest reaction from the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to give a toast when you believe you should not be here,\u201d the comedian quipped. \u201cI was going to say something like the children when they asked me who or what gives me hope for the future. But I realized I don\u2019t know any. I know my niece and nephew. and one of them called me a bitch last week. I\u2019m not gonna say which\u2026 my niece! My nephew\u2019s an angel. But I\u2019m not gonna hang all my hope on those guys!\u201d<\/p>\n

Next up for Barker is \u201cAnything But Ghosts,\u201d set for release on May 7, 2027. Seth Rogen, who penned Barker\u2019s Time100 Next profile<\/a>, already saw the film \u2014 and claims that Barker\u2019s sophomore feature is \u201ceven better\u201d than \u201cObsession.\u201d<\/p>\n
