Intel has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire quantum computing software company Classiq, combining Classiq\u2019s quantum algorithm synthesis platform with Intel\u2019s silicon spin-qubit technology, semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, and existing quantum software.<\/p>\n
The acquisition is designed to position Intel as a full-stack quantum computing provider spanning hardware, software, and quantum processing infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Classiq develops software that allows developers, researchers, and enterprises to design quantum applications without manually constructing complex quantum circuits.<\/p>\n
Its platform combines AI agents, a high-level quantum modeling language, and automated design tools to create optimized applications that can run across different quantum hardware platforms.<\/p>\n
Intel views Classiq\u2019s technology as analogous to the role electronic design automation and computer-aided design software played in the evolution of traditional semiconductor development.<\/p>\n
By abstracting much of the complexity associated with underlying quantum hardware, Intel believes the combined platform could make quantum application development more accessible and scalable.<\/p>\n
Intel has invested in quantum computing since 2015 and has focused much of its work on silicon spin-qubit technology.<\/p>\n
The company said its semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure allows it to produce qubit chips and cryogenic control electronics using equipment and processes similar to those used in conventional chip manufacturing.<\/p>\n
Combining those capabilities with Classiq\u2019s synthesis platform would give Intel an integrated quantum stack covering software development, algorithms, control systems, and quantum processors.<\/p>\n
The transaction would also expand Intel\u2019s computing portfolio beyond CPUs, GPUs, and application-specific integrated circuits by adding quantum processing units.<\/p>\n
Following completion, Intel plans to continue supporting Classiq\u2019s existing integrations with multiple quantum hardware platforms.<\/p>\n
The company said Classiq\u2019s software will remain hardware- and modality-agnostic, allowing customers to continue developing applications for an open quantum computing ecosystem rather than being restricted solely to Intel hardware.<\/p>\n
The acquisition is expected to close during the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.<\/p>\n
Intel and Classiq will continue operating independently until the transaction is completed.<\/p>\n
