Leaders at Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Paris’s Centre Pompidou, and M+ in Hong Kong signed an agreement granting unprecedented access to each museum’s holdings for increased viewership, more collaborative curation, and additional research. <\/p>\n

The alliance emerges on the eve of M+’s fifth anniversary at its physical location in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, and just one year into MoMA director Christophe Cherix’s tenure<\/a>. The agreement follows a wave of institutional resource pooling<\/a> and joint<\/a> acquisitions<\/a> that swelled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic as museums seek to reduce overhead costs<\/a> while navigating major deficits. In another shakeup earlier this year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced its forthcoming merger<\/a> with Ronald Lauder’s Neue Galerie, which is set to commence in 2028.<\/p>\n

\u201cMuseums must evolve to reflect the complexity of our world,\u201d said M+ Museum Director Suhanya Raffel in a press statement on the alliance. <\/p>\n

Previous collaborations between M+, home to the Sigg collection<\/a> of contemporary Chinese art among thousands of other contemporary works from across Asia, and the other two museums foregrounded this agreement. The Hong Kong-based museum signed a memorandum of understanding with the MoMA in early 2025<\/a> that established shared curatorial, conservation, and scholarship objectives. And this spring, M+ and Centre Pompidou entered a strategic partnership<\/a> to \u201cstrengthen the cultural dialogue\u201d between their respective continents through joint exhibitions, collections sharing, and a funded fellowship.<\/p>\n
