But removing an existing benefit from a paid plan is different.

Starting November 13, AI Plus subscribers will no longer be able to select Pro models in the Gemini app or AI Mode in Google Search.

To keep using those models, they will have to upgrade to the 4x more expensive AI Pro subscription.

And that’s where I have a problem with Google’s approach.

People signed up for AI Plus expecting to occasionally use Pro models, even if their usage was restricted.

Now they are being asked to pay more to keep something they already got.

Don’t get me wrong, Google’s Flash models are no slouch.

Gemini 3.8 Flash, in particular, has made impressive gains in reasoning, coding, and handling complex tasks.

For everyday activities, I would argue that a capable Flash model is more than enough for most people.

I am more concerned about what happens next.

As impressive as Gemini 3.8 Flash is, I expect Google’s next-generation Pro model to push the boundaries further, especially when it comes to advanced reasoning, coding, and tackling complicated queries.

That’s where I think AI Plus subscribers will start feeling the heat.

When Google releases a more capable Pro model, AI Plus subscribers will have to watch from the sidelines unless they upgrade.

Previously, they could experiment with Google’s powerful models without committing to an expensive subscription.

That flexibility was one of the biggest reasons to consider AI Plus.

Losing it might not seem like much today, especially if Flash handles most of your tasks just fine. But as Google’s Pro models keep improving, it could become a dealbreaker in the future.

AI Plus still has value, but its target audience is changing

Fast answers can’t replace deeper thinking

Despite all my criticism, I wouldn’t go so far as to call Google AI Plus a bad subscription. There is still plenty to like about it.

For starters, you get 400GB of cloud storage, access to additional features in Gemini Notebook, AI assistance in Gemini, and expanded access to Google’s image and video generation tools.

And Gemini Flash remains available for everyday tasks.

However, I feel the type of user who would benefit most from this subscription is changing.

Previously, I could easily recommend AI Plus to someone who wanted to experiment with Google’s AI models without spending too much money.

That recommendation is becoming much harder.

AI Plus is gradually starting to feel more like a cloud storage subscription with some AI perks bundled in, rather than an affordable gateway to Google’s more powerful AI capabilities.

                    Related

5 reasons why I’m not renewing my Gemini Advanced subscription

You haven’t convinced me, Google

Google is creating a fragmented Gemini experience

Gemini’s subscription maze keeps getting messier

Another thing that frustrates me about Google’s approach is how complicated its Gemini subscriptions are becoming.

Keeping track of which models are available with which plans is already confusing, and these latest restrictions only make it worse.

Even within the Flash family, there is a distinction: AI Plus subscribers currently get Gemini 3.6 Flash in the Gemini app, while the newer 3.8 Flash is available on the Pro and Ultra plans.

The confusion expands to the other products. For example, I am on a Google AI Pro plan, and yet I don’t have access to Gemini Argon in Antigravity.

I shouldn’t have to dig through multiple support pages and subscription comparison charts to figure out which AI models I am paying for.

Google wants more for Gemini Pro

I understand Google wants to make its expensive AI subscriptions more attractive, but I don’t think taking away existing benefits is the right approach.

AI Plus was a great entry point for anyone looking to explore Gemini’s advanced capabilities without spending too much.

With Pro access disappearing, that appeal is fading.

Google AI Plus has been one of the easiest ways to experience Gemini’s more powerful features without spending…

[31
74
post-900881","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-technology","tag-technology
["GET
