One way the Blackhawks<\/a> could address their roster\u2019s flaws and inject life into their season before it fully slips away is by making a trade.<\/p>\n

The NHL trade market is typically quiet this early in the season, but this is no typical season. The Red Wings\u2019 messy Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson situations remain unresolved, and Lightning star Nikita Kucherov just shook the earth with his shocking trade request Friday.<\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t make sense for the Hawks to pursue Larkin or Kucherov, given their ages \u2014 30 and 33, respectively \u2014 and how much it would take to acquire them. Nor would either of them approve a trade to Chicago in all likelihood.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson could attempt to take advantage of the excitement and instability they\u2019re introducing into the market or the domino effects that might occur after one gets dealt.<\/p>\n

It sounds like Davidson is working the phones, at least. NHL reporter Frank Seravalli said Tuesday on Chicago Sports Network that the Hawks are specifically looking for a \u201cshoot-first scoring winger with size.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Hawks definitely lack size among their top-nine forwards, and coach Jeff Blashill has been calling for an increased shooting mentality<\/a>, so that prototype makes sense.<\/p>\n

Based on my guesswork, here are a few players who could be Hawks targets:<\/p>\n

Capitals forward Ivan Miroshnichenko has reportedly requested a trade because he has been healthy-scratched for all but three games this season. The 22-year-old Russian has good size (6-1 and 205 pounds), skates well and was productive in the AHL the last two seasons (76 points in 94 games combined).<\/p>\n

He\u2019s in a similar position to Hawks defenseman Kevin Korchinski, who was taken 13 picks before Miroshnichenko in the 2022 first round. Both are in limbo because they\u2019re no longer waiver-exempt. Perhaps the Hawks and Capitals could work out a swap? Then again, the Capitals\u2019 strong roster doesn\u2019t have free spots on defense, either.<\/p>\n

Blue Jackets forward Dmitri Voronkov is another Russian struggling to crack his team\u2019s lineup this season, pushing him into trade rumors. The 26-year-old is huge (6-5 and 230 pounds) and has scored 40 goals over the last two NHL seasons combined.<\/p>\n

He might just be a poor man\u2019s version of Tyler Bertuzzi, though, and his skating and work ethic don\u2019t get rave reviews. He\u2019ll be a restricted free agent after his summer.<\/p>\n

Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk, meanwhile, is a more established Bertuzzi-like player who has been taking shots and scoring on a decent percentage of them around the net for years \u2014 even though he, like Bertuzzi, tends to be streaky.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a decent skater, too. But he\u2019s 30 years old (although he hasn\u2019t shown signs of decline yet) and wields a full no-movement clause, which has prevented the rebuilding Canucks from trading him up to this point. He still has four years left on his contract.<\/p>\n

The most ideal target might be Flyers forward Owen Tippett, but it\u2019s far from certain the Flyers are willing to trade him \u2014 with good reason, because he\u2019s a quality player.<\/p>\n

Tippett, 27, is a great skater with good size (6-1 and 210 pounds) and a fire-away shooting mentality that would fit perfectly on the Hawks. He has recorded between 43 and 53 points in four consecutive seasons to go along with excellent analytics. He has six contract years left with a reasonable $6.2 million salary-cap hit.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s only worth mentioning because the Hawks and Flyers are both off to terrible starts after entering the season with real ambitions. They could shake up each other\u2019s struggling rosters with one move.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear, too, if Davidson would be willing to part with any of his young roster players.
