Doctor Doom has been positioned as the next major evil of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His role is to play the conqueror, a multiversal threat who could redefine Marvel<\/a>‘s Earth-616 as audiences know it. It’s a part that Doom has played many times on the page. In fact, it was only recently that One World Under Doom depicted the masked villain finally finding power after years of searching, paving the way for a new empire under his rule.<\/p>\n

Naturally, Doctor Doom has always been a Fantastic Four villain with ambitions that go beyond that team. It’s why he has also been pitted against the Avengers more times than anyone can count. However, is he actually the strongest villain in all of the Marvel Universe? There are those who would likely claim to be more powerful. Some have made their big (and small) screen debut. Others are still awaiting an introduction. But make no mistake, any of these could put Doom in his place and serve as the next big bad.<\/p>\n

5 <\/p>\n

Kang the Conqueror Has Consistently Been Pitted Against Doctor Doom<\/p>\n

Kang the Conqueror was previously set up as the MCU’s next big bad. The character was given numerous appearances and was shown to be a legitimate threat across the Multiverse. Unfortunately, in this context, the creative team had to go in a different direction entirely. But one thing is clear. Marvel saw Kang as the kind of threat that was comparable to Doctor Doom, and that’s for good reason. Because throughout his comic book history, Kang has arguably been the more powerful of the two.<\/p>\n

Now, some context must be brought to that revelation. For the longest time, Kang has been seen as the adversary to Doctor Doom, another player on the board looking for universal domination. While Doctor Doom is a man of science and magic, combining those two disciplines to provide ample power for his sinister plans, Kang the Conqueror is a man of time. Traveling through both the timeline and the Multiverse has given him his edge over his enemies.<\/p>\n

There is one difference between the two. Doom is absolute. Doom will always be Doom. But Kang has the uncanny ability to regenerate. He has become countless other personalities, such as Immortus, Rama-Tut, or Victor Timely. In each iteration, he has shown that he can evolve enough to grasp on to some new sense of agency. While Doctor Doom has pulled off some incredible feats, it’s the consistency of Kang’s rule across all these personas that gives him the edge.<\/p>\n

4 <\/p>\n

Dormammu Is The True Big Bad Of The Marvel Universe <\/p>\n

In the MCU, Dormammu has already been introduced. He has been depicted as the lord of the Dark Dimension, an evil god that even Doctor Strange couldn’t beat one-on-one. Instead, Dormammu was tricked and forced into a deal that he did not want to commit. Already, on that level, Doctor Doom seems inferior<\/a> to a god-like being. Regardless of the way Doom is portrayed on screen, it’s hard to imagine he will be as terrifying as this entity.<\/p>\n

In the comics, Dormammu is depicted in much the same light, or rather, darkness. It is his sheer scale and cosmic power that makes him such a specific character. There are simply some beings in the Marvel Universe who are integral to the fabric of reality itself, and Dormammu is one of them. His leadership over the Dark Dimension gives him more space and resources for his power than Doom could even fathom.<\/p>\n

Doom also has a weakness that Dormammu does not, and that is his humanity. Be it ego, guilt or some sense of fear of humiliation and defeat, Doom has been shown to give in to his mortal emotions. It was that very mortality that ended One World Under Doom in disaster for the sorcerer. Dormammu does not have these same attachments. He does not have those same human weaknesses. It is that lack of distinct flaw in the armor that makes Dormammu even more formidable.<\/p>\n

3 <\/p>\n

Molecule Man Is A World-Changer That Should Be Feared<\/p>\n

The Molecule Man has yet to be brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there is likely a good reason for that. It seems as though the character is unadaptable. Simply put, he is too powerful. It’s hard to even see, in the context of a cinematic epic, how a character of such control could be bested. Although it has happened in comics before, that requires a very specific set of circumstances. Ones that can be sold more easily on the page.<\/p>\n

That should give audiences reason enough to believe that Doom is more beatable than the Molecule Man, because the former villain has to be defeated by the Avengers eventually. Molecule Man is one of the most powerful beings in the universe. He can bend reality to his whim and control matter. It is his influence over the molecules of existence that acts as the starting point for his powers. Abilities that, it must be added, have only grown with time.<\/p>\n

All of Doctor Doom’s power is borrowed in some sense. Magic has limits, and there is always a cost for the spells that have been cast. For Molecule Man, there are no limitations to what he can do. That makes him a special kind of threat. While Molecule Man can be caught off guard by a more psychological attack, Doom is also not immune to that kind of approach, so that particular weakness is null and void. In an outright fight between the two, Molecule Man would win.<\/p>\n

2 <\/p>\n

The Beyonder Is Beyond Them All<\/p>\n

The Beyonder is another character that is yet to be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, presumably because of his power level. There is a caveat to that, though. The figure is very integral to the Secret Wars storyline in the comics, and with Avengers: Secret Wars acting as the next major tent pole film in the MCU after Avengers: Doomsday, there is every possibility that The Beyonder will play a part in that narrative.<\/p>\n

Irrespective of his debut, what is evident is that if the character were to be introduced in that context, he would be pitted against Doctor Doom<\/a>. To be honest, that’s not exactly a fair fight. The Beyonder is a cosmic being in his own right, but has all the emotional flaws of humanity. The problem is, when his powers are paired with his emotional volatility, it’s hard to create a battle plan worthy enough of bringing him down.<\/p>\n

The Beyonder is also a limitless being, who is not being held back by mystical abilities or the laws of the universe. The Beyonder is a manipulator too. He is a manipulator of people, and he is a manipulator of reality. Any rule that Doom may believe he has can quickly be torn apart by the whims of the cosmic beast. The Beyonders also exist completely outside the traditional hierarchy of the Marvel Universe, making them untouchable.<\/p>\n

Ultron Could Take On The Multiverse<\/p>\n

Avengers: Age of Ultron marked the debut of the killing machine in the MCU, although many feared that this wasn’t a truly fair or accurate portrayal of the comic book character. While the robot has returned in VisionQuest, it’s fair to say that his most complete portrayal was actually in What If…? In the animated series, a version of the artificial intelligence became so sentient that it was able to perceive the Multiverse and the existence of The Watcher.<\/p>\n

Moving outside of space and time, he stole the Infinity Stones and created a new, Multiversal threat. It was a level of power not seen on screen before, but one that had been seen in the comics. Ultron has a funny habit of also posing an existential risk. Whether it was during the real age of Ultron, or perhaps any number of times the character battled the Avengers, he showed just why he was more powerful than Doom.<\/p>\n

Because even Doom has to rely on technology, like his Doombots, the kind of tech that Ultron could manipulate if he so wished. What’s more, the character is seemingly unable to die. There is always a backup saved somewhere. Ultron could easily ascend to be a cosmic being like the Beyonder, and it feels as though his potential on the page still hasn’t been fully unveiled.
