The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/interactive-installation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">installation<\/a> draws directly from Macau\u2019s vernacular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/bamboo-architecture-and-design\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bamboo<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/scaffolding\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">scaffolding<\/a>, a building technique listed on the city\u2019s Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017, reinterpreting construction-grade craft into a contemporary waterfront pavilion for contemplation.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"traditional bamboo scaffolding and tea-waste panels shape impromptu projects' pagoda in macau - 1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/bamboo-pagoda-reinterpreting-macaus-bamboo-scaffolding-heritage-2-6acca7bd6e918.jpg\" width=\"818\" height=\"545\"\/>all images by Tang Kuok Hou, Gon\u00e7alo Lobo Pinheiro<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>OCTAGONAL SKELETON INTEGRATES TRANSLUCENT BAMBOO FABRIC SKIN<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The design by Impromptu Projects <a href=\"https:\/\/impromptuprojects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">studio<\/a> references classical pagoda geometries and Taoist concepts of equilibrium, structured over an octagonal footprint that tapers as it ascends. Slender structural bamboo culms form the exposed load-bearing skeleton, bound using traditional scaffolding lashing methods. A semi-translucent skin of bamboo fabric wraps the framework, filtering natural light and diffusing the vertical profile. Grounding the structure, the floor surface is laid with composite panels manufactured by Macau-based firm Zence Object Technology (CHAZENCE), composed of recycled tea waste and discarded wood chips.
