The 2026 Lady Blue Hen Invitational marked the 1,000th career win for women’s golf coach Mark Anderson. From Oct. 24 to 25, the two-day invitational saw seven wins from the Quakers, who helped Anderson reach 1,002 career wins.

“It is pretty cool to have been around long enough to reach a milestone like this,” wrote Anderson in a statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian. “We’ve had some really good teams over the years, and it’s really a tribute to all the talented players who have contributed to those wins.”

Anderson has been head coach since 2008, achieving 19 tournament titles, two of which were the team’s only Ivy League Championship crowns.

“I think the best way to celebrate is to reflect on how fortunate I’ve been to coach at Penn for as long as I have,” wrote Anderson. “Looking back over 19 years, all the incredible people I have met, and all of the amazing places we’ve been, makes me realize how lucky I’ve been to be part of this program.”

With 19 All-Ivy honors and 29 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar certificates under his belt, Anderson certainly has a lot to celebrate.

Anderson was a collegiate golfer himself. He started on the practice squad at Florida Southern College and then played for three years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1990. He started his professional career at the Golden Oaks Golf Club, and then later as the head golf professional at Heidelberg Country Club.

Anderson arrived at the Talamore at Oak Terrace as the director of Golf and Amenities before moving to the Philadelphia Cricket Club, where he helped players improve their strokes and mentality by introducing a Video Putting Analysis program. In 2020, Anderson became the director of Instruction at St. Davids Golf Club and was ranked No. 10 in Golf Digest’s top golf instructors in Pennsylvania.

Throughout his time at Penn, Anderson has adapted his coaching style to the needs and energy of his players.

“Over the years I’ve really come to appreciate the balance it takes to be successful as a student-athlete at Penn,” Anderson wrote. “It is not easy to excel at such a high level both academically and athletically. I’ve become more understanding of when a player needs some time off to manage stress or catch up on academics.”

Despite these changes, Anderson holds one thing constant: his desire for the team to compete well and win. When Anderson inevitably encounters an obstacle, he chooses to focus on the future.

“I’ve always tried to stay positive, focus on finding solutions, and make decisions based on what’s best for the team,” Anderson wrote.

His positivity-centered coaching style has proven to be effective; only one of the team’s 20 tournament titles was before Anderson’s time. As Anderson looks ahead to his next milestone, he has a few goals set for the team.

“There are some things that we haven’t accomplished yet that I believe are possible,” Anderson wrote. “I would love to see a Penn player win the Ivy League individual championship, earn Player of the Year honors, and have someone named Rookie of the Year.”

However, Anderson mostly wants to maintain the team’s dynamic.

“It’s been very strong over the past few years, and I’d love to see that continue to grow.”

The 2026 Lady Blue Hen Invitational marked the 1,000th career win for women’s golf coach Mark Anderson.
