A children’s hospital in Kansas City has eliminated more than 100 positions and moved hundreds of other employees to an outside company. <\/p>\n
Children’s Mercy leaders confirmed in a statement Monday that it laid off 115 employees, which equals about 1.2% of its workforce. <\/p>\n
Those positions were mostly nonclinical administrative, leadership and support roles, Children’s Mercy leaders said. <\/p>\n
Additionally, 473 revenue cycle and scheduling team members will transition to partner company Ensemble, which deals with revenue cycle management. <\/p>\n
“Children’s Mercy is committed to providing exceptional care for patients, families and our community and to expanding access to pediatric care close to home,” hospital leaders said in the statement. “Like children’s hospitals nationwide, we face rising costs and reimbursement that has not kept pace. We continue to evolve our organizational structure to ensure we can remain one of only 28 independent, freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, focused on kids.” <\/p>\n
This comes less than two weeks after major insurance changes were announced, raising concerns for many families.
