Greyserman had just lost over four strokes on the greens in his second round, so to better match his speed with his lines, he eased up significantly on his grip pressure.

“I felt like I was kind of jabbing at the ball and the stroke wasn’t really flowing,” Greyserman said. “I started holding the putter a lot lighter in my hands and that just let it swing a little more. … It felt pretty good on Saturday, and then Sunday, I just started filling it up thankfully.”

Greyserman, the younger brother of PGA Tour player Max Greyserman, finished the 72-hole event at 9 under, two shots clear of a two-man playoff for the last of 21 final-stage berths out of the site, one of four staged across Spain.

Australian’s Anthony Quayle won the Girona site at 18 under.

Greyserman’s former Stanford teammate Nathan Wang was also among the advancing players, as were Mateo Pulcini, Jiri Zuska, Chase Hanna, Wilco Nienaber and Austin Greaser.

Like Wang, Greyserman has remained amateur after graduation. Though he looked into the potential of returning to school for a fifth year, Greyserman instead decided to chase professional status via the Global Amateur Pathway, the R&A’s version of PGA Tour University. While he didn’t receive a DP World Tour card – that went to No. 1 Eliot Baker last month – Greyserman did gain PGA Tour Americas membership for 2027.

He also was able to bypass first stage of DP World Tour Q-School, but only because one player in front of him in the GAP rankings forgot to sign up.

Greyserman, who had been slated to play first stage in Sweden, has already advanced through pre-qualifying and first stages of PGA Tour Q-School and has second stage in a few weeks.

“Nothing too crazy there,” Greyserman said of his qualifying run stateside, which continued a breakout year in which Greyserman won the Western Intercollegiate, tied for sixth at the NCAA Championship, reached the semifinals of the North and South Amateur and made the Sweet 16 at the Western Amateur, where he made the 36-hole cut by one shot only to shoot 11 under on the 36-hole day of stroke play.

When Greyserman woke up Sunday morning in Girona, he figured he’d need to shoot 63 at Fontanals Golf Club to have a shot. He did one better, also birdieing two of his last three holes.

“I knew that it was out there,” Greyserman said. “It’s not a total pitch and putt, but after you’ve played the course a few times, you start to see a few more birdies. I felt good after Saturday, and I knew it was within me. I feel like I’ve played some good golf in the past when my back’s been against the wall. So, yeah, I went for it, and thankfully it worked out.”

Among those not advancing out of Greyserman’s qualifier: Tom Lewis, Robert Rock, Richard Teder, Egor Eroshenko, Aidan Train, Alfie Plant, Vince Van Veen, Shubhankar Sharma, Ben Reuter, Ryan Peake, Alejandro Canizares. Teder double-bogeyed his 72nd hole to miss the playoff by two.

Elsewhere, Netherlands’ Jerry Ji medaled in Huelva, Spain, to advance alongside Michael Mjaaseth, Frank Kennedy, Baard Skogen, K.K. Limbhasut, Adri Arnaus, John Dubois and Callum Tarren (won a 4-for-1 playoff), among others.

Spain’s Albert Boneta won the qualifier in Albacete, where Patrick Cover, Ben Schmidt, David Nyfjall, Quentin Debove, John Axelsen and John Greco also advanced, among others. Former LIV member Luis Masaveu fell in a 6-for-4 playoff, though he was added to the final-stage field as an alternate on Monday.

And perhaps the story of second stage: Pakistan’s Ahmad Baig won the Almeria qualifier by five shots. Kieran Vincent, Michael Sanders, Ryan Lumsden, Segundo Oliva Pinto, Julian Etulain and Christian Banke were among those to also advance out of that site.

Also among those not qualifying for final stage: Sam Horsfield, Nick Voke, William Love, Tom Sloman, Thomas Higgins, Louis Klein, Fred Biondi, Clement Sordet, Justin Harding, Marcus Plunkett, Jonas Baumgartner, Mark Power, Alvaro Quiros, Taylor Funk, Brandon Wu, Angus Flanagan, Alex Maguire, Tiger Christensen, Joe Pagdin, Mats Ege, Marcus Byrd, Robin Williams and Michael La Sasso.

Joining the top second-stage performers at final stage, which will be contested Thursday-Sunday at Infinitum Golf’s Lakes and Hills courses, are qualifiers from the DP World Tour (Nos. 101-145), HotelPlanner Tour (Nos. 16-45), select players from other international tours and DPWT winners whose exemptions will expire at season’s end or expired after last season. That last exemption gets recent LIV members Elvis Smylie, Ben An and Thomas Pieters into the field. Jose Ballester is qualified via the Race to Dubai.

The full field for final stage can be found here.

Dean Greyserman had to slightly correct the record.
