Melania Trump\u2019s latest foray into streaming could come with an unexpected plot twist: congressional scrutiny.<\/p>\n
Jeff Bezos\u2019 Amazon Prime Video is scheduled to release Melania\u2019s two-part docuseries on Nov. 20, just weeks after Americans delivered a scathing repudiation of President Donald Trump\u2019s second term and expressed concern over corruption within the administration.<\/p>\n

One episode, titled \u201cFamily & Trust,\u201d will follow Melania as she prepares to become first lady, building on her earlier eponymous documentary. The second episode, titled \u201cPride & Honor,\u201d takes place just after Trump\u2019s inauguration.<\/p>\n
On The Daily Beast Podcast, executive editor Hugh Dougherty pointed out the irony of the docuseries announcement coming just after Trump\u2019s party suffered a humiliating midterm defeat.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer husband just lost an election in humiliating fashion,\u201d Dougherty told host Joanna Coles. \u201cThe Democrats are going to go after every bit of the grift.\u201d<\/p>\n

Exit polls showed that Americans are deeply concerned about the economy and cost of living, which has skyrocketed since Trump waged war against Iran. Robert Garcia, who is expected to become chairman of the House Oversight Committee, had a brief message<\/a> for Trump and his \u201ccrime family\u201d shortly after Democrats swept the elections: \u201cLawyer up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s as if they\u2019ve got their hand out for as much cash as they can get, and I wonder if that speeds up… Do they become even greedier now that the clock is ticking?\u201d Coles asked Dougherty, who pointed out that the first couple has already received $10.71 million<\/a> from the Melania documentary.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s already a serious amount of money that\u2019s gone to Melania. There was no scrutiny. The Republicans weren\u2019t doing any oversight,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s another aspect of this election: People said, \u2018Hold on. Your job is to hold people accountable, to be a check and a balance on power.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNow we have Democrats who are determined,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey have already said some of the targets for subpoenas. Those targets already include Donald Trump Jr., because of his extraordinary business dealings. There is no way that they are not going to go after Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and Melania Trump for this\u2014I\u2019m going to say\u2014extraordinary documentary,\u201d Dougherty continued. \u201cWe\u2019ve all got questions.\u201d<\/p>\n The White House and the Office of the First Lady did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this story.<\/p>\n Trump reported<\/a> a multimillion-dollar licensing fee for Melania on his 2025 financial disclosure report. Amazon, meanwhile, spent $40 million to acquire the documentary and blew another $35 million on marketing. The film ultimately made about $16.6 million worldwide, and it has since been released on Amazon Prime Video.<\/p>\n Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is all in on the first lady’s documentaries.<\/p>\n Miguel J. Rodriguez Carrillo \/ AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n The president also reported a $521,161 licensing payment for a Melania memoir from Skyhorse Publishing and $6 million in net proceeds from \u201cNFTs and other collectibles\u201d associated with the first lady.<\/p>\n The White House has repeatedly maintained that \u201cneither the President nor his family has ever engaged\u2014or will ever engage\u2014in conflicts of interest.\u201d<\/p>\n California Rep. Robert Garcia has warned the Trump family to “lawyer up.”<\/p>\n Drew Angerer\/Getty Images<\/p>\n But voters weren\u2019t convinced, and Democrats are fired up after wresting power from Republicans.<\/p>\n \u201cThe American people have spoken, and they are tired of the unprecedented level of corruption coming out of this White House under President Trump,\u201d Garcia said in a video statement<\/a> on Friday. <\/p>\n \u201cOversight Democrats are ready to take on the crooks, the con men, and the Trump crime family.
