Then, the revamped, reinvigorated, star-studded mixed doubles event starts the following day and concludes on Wednesday, the first time a major tennis trophy will be handed out before the main draw begins. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_rtekdp5e9\">But this goes to one of the foremost tips and hacks for attending the tournament. Go to the U.S. Open qualifying week. It\u2019s like free access to MLB spring training. It\u2019s like getting into the arena to watch your favorite band\u2019s soundcheck. FOR FREE. (You can also watch the Tuesday mixed doubles matches on Louis Armstrong free of charge.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_suicb5iz1\">Here are dozens of other tips for attending the U.S. Open, culled from previous years, with some new ones thrown in for 2025. Bookmark it. Play around with the stats, not the momentum-based player ratings. And note the practice schedules, which are posted daily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_7g9dlauxv\">\u2022 @T_tennis_tennis: \u201cDownload the U.S. Open app in advance and check out the order of play the night before to make a game plan of what you\u2019d like to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_kskawqkmd\">\u2022 Root for all Ukrainian players.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_irohwnzzi\">\u2022 Root for any and all players outside the top 100. Not out of any sense of duty or obligation, but because it\u2019s super awesome\u2014terrifically entertaining tennis and filled with the kind of shotmaking we all love.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_q4bvuuklo\">\u2022 Support doubles the way you support live music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_pdeunkps5\">\u2022 We used to advise buying the grounds pass over the seats in Arthur Ashe Stadium. No longer. The USTA issues way too many grounds passes. Be prepared to stand on your ride, especially if the Mets are playing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_hm49eghkt\">\u2022 @sufed4ever: \u201cIf you are taking the subway, be friendly to other passengers. Struck up a conversation with a doctor, wife and his mom who were fellow U.S. Open attendees and they gave me an extra ticket to one of the suites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_iqwtgy1yw\">\u2022 Our preferred alternative: Ride the Long Island Rail Road from both Penn Station and\u2014note this update\u2014Grand Central. It\u2019s much faster and only a tad pricier, though trains run only three or four times an hour, so check the schedule. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_yp69rjeyg\">\u2022 @clarkcomedy notes: \u201cYou can take a bus to the Open straight from LaGuardia.\u201d At the risk of sounding like a tourist bureau, you\u2019ll be surprised how civil and efficient the trains are. If you insist on private transportation, take an Uber or cab over a car service, which drops you off somewhere near Montauk. (Or where Medvedev returns serve.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_dibkoo0z9\">\u2022 Here\u2019s Esha Bhandari: \u201cFor the cycling-inclined, biking to the U.S. Open is an excellent option. If you come up through Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, you can park at bike racks outside the Queens Museum, putting you right by the \u2018back\u2019 entrance to the tennis (the one that subway riders don\u2019t use). Not only is it very pleasant to avoid long lines on the way in, but at the end of the day you can walk out, hop on the bike, and avoid the hordes waiting for the subway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_t4muotmg4\">\u2022 Note that subway MetroCards are no longer needed. (Aside: Whoever does the AmEx U.S. Open sponsorships gets it. These are consistently creative, fun and feel completely non-intrusive.) If not, bring binoculars. Particularly during changeovers\u2014I think Tsitsipas\u2019s dad is on his phone\u2014they can come in handy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_jkf1rlh63\">\u2022 @scottzabielski: \u201cThe free AmEx radios are surprisingly awesome. They might not look cool but they make the match so much more interesting.
