Joyce Manor are back with \u201cAll My Friends Are So Depressed,\u201d their first new song since 2022\u2019s 40 oz. to Fresno<\/a>. It was produced by Epitaph founder and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, and it finds the long-running punk band exploring the soft, jangly side that\u2019s popped up a few times throughout their career. Vocalist\/guitarist Barry Johnson says:<\/p>\n

The first line I came up with for this song was \u2018lord above in a Tecate truck\u2019 after passing a Tecate delivery truck with Jesus shit all over it on the freeway driving back to Long Beach after a show in Fresno. While searching for a line that rhymed with \u2018lord above in a Tecate truck\u2019 I came up with \u2018why even exist? Who gives a fuck!?\u2019 and the concept of \u2018All My Friends Are So Depressed\u2019 was born. It\u2019s kind of my take on what I imagine Lana Del Rey lyrics are like. Instead of icy, detached cool 50\u2019s Americana, it\u2019s all dirty shag carpet, bong rips, Peter Frampton Comes Alive, key lime pie and suicidal ideations. My flow was inspired by 100 Gecs who I was listening to a concerning amount in 2023 (Much respect to Dylan and Laura, please take us on tour). Musically, we were drawing from The Libertines, Tiger Army, X, and The Smiths\u2026 obviously.<\/p>\n

The end result is something that\u2019s both extremely Joyce Manor, and also not quite like any other song in their catalog. It\u2019s got me excited to hopefully hear more from them soon, but meanwhile check out this song and its video (directed by Jaxon Whittington and Barry Johnson) below.<\/p>\n
