\n\tBob Odenkirk<\/a> learned a valuable lesson for \u201cMr. Show\u201d during his days writing on \u201cSaturday Night Live<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a recent episode of Variety\u2018s \u201cKnow Their Lines<\/a>,\u201d Odenkirk said he and co-host David Cross created an environment of \u201cincredible freedom\u201d for the writers on \u201cMr. Show.\u201d This was because while working on \u201cSNL,\u201d Odenkirk said it was \u201cvery easy\u201d for new writers to get their ideas quickly \u201cshot down\u201d by veteran staffers before they had a chance to explain themselves fully.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEverything that I learned at \u2018SNL\u2019 that I never got to use when I wrote on \u2018SNL,\u2019 I used to make \u2018Mr. Show,’\u201d Odenkirk recalled. \u201cAt \u2018SNL\u2019 it was very easy, especially for young writers, to get their ideas shot down very quickly by older writers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOdenkirk added that once he went to work on \u201cMr. Show,\u201d he and Cross made sure to give all their staffers a fair shot to share their ideas.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I went to \u2018Mr. Show\u2019 and I was in charge over there with David Cross, I sort of made it a rule that you don\u2019t shoot anything down,\u201d Odenkirk said. \u201cYou have to talk about everything. You have to fully understand the writer\u2019s idea before you let it go. So it was a good thing to learn what not to do from \u2018Saturday Night Live.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMr. Show\u201d ran for 30 episodes across four seasons from 1995 to 1998. The subversive sketch comedy series earned four Emmy nominations during its run on HBO.<\/p>\n

\n\tOutside of Odenkirk and Cross, \u201cMr. Show\u201d also starred Tom Kenny, John Ennis, Jay Johnston, Paul F. Tompkins, Jill Talley and Brett Paesel.<\/p>\n
