The feature is based on the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC)&#8217;s Digital Key specification, which will be receiving an upgrade soon, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20250714120180\/en\/Industry-Leaders-Gather-for-Thirteenth-Plugfest-to-Advance-CCC-Digital-Key-Interoperability\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announcement<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/iPhone-Car-Key-Kia.jpg\"   alt=\"iPhone Car Key Kia\" width=\"1271\" height=\"715\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1009335\"\/><br \/>Digital Key version 3.0 was released in 2021, adding support for Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology alongside Bluetooth LE. Four years later, it appears that the CCC is currently in the process of readying Digital Key version 4.0. In a press release today, the CCC said that Apple and other CCC members will be conducting real-world testing of Digital Key version 4.0 this week at an <a href=\"https:\/\/carconnectivity.org\/events\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">event<\/a> hosted by Apple in Cupertino, California. In an email, a CCC spokesperson said the event is taking place at Apple Park.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the CCC has not shared many details about Digital Key version 4.0 at this time. All it said is that the latest specification will &#8220;further improve cross-platform interoperability and cross-version compatibility&#8221; of digital car keys.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"iPhone Car Key WWDC 2025\" width=\"1944\" height=\"1090\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1005170 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/iPhone-Car-Key-WWDC-2025.jpg\"  data- loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>Digital Key version 4.0 should enhance the iPhone&#8217;s car key feature in various ways, but we will have to wait for specific details and a timeframe.<\/p>\n<p>We recently shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2025\/07\/06\/iphone-car-key-vehicles-list\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">list of vehicles that offer iPhone car keys<\/a>, including select models from Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, RAM, Volvo, and others.
