HONOLULU (Island News) — We are just days away from the University of Hawaii football team’s first game of the season.<\/p>\n

The Warriors battle the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Clarence TC Ching Complex in Honolulu.<\/p>\n

The game, which is nearing a sell-out, will also be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.<\/p>\n

Coaches and players are ready to showcase what they’ve been working on over the past months on the national stage against a storied program.<\/p>\n

“Just knowing that, just the eyes and everybody looking at our program, you know, our team, Hawaii’s team, I mean, it is special. And so we want to make sure that we just are prepared and we make a good showing, and we want to go out there and execute and perform,” Hawaii head football coach Timmy Chang said.<\/p>\n

Hawaii starting quarterback Micah Alejado thinks it’s a “humongous” opportunity for the team and especially the state.<\/p>\n

“You know, we are Hawaii’s team, and you know, we take full pride in representing them, especially on this grand stage,”\u00a0Alejado\u00a0said. “So it’s a blessing for sure, just to be able on this stage. And you know, we’re gonna go out there and do what we do.”<\/p>\n

Hawaii last played Stanford two years ago in Honolulu with the Cardinal coming out on top 37-24.<\/p>\n

Stanford leads the all-time series against Hawaii with four wins and no losses.<\/p>\n
