Rising indie-country<\/a> artist Greg Freeman\u2019s sophomore album Burnover comes out this Friday and (spoiler) it\u2019s very good. While you wait to hear the whole thing, here\u2019s one more taste.<\/p>\n

THEY ARE GUTTING A BODY OF WATER \u2013 \u201cTHE CHASE\u201d<\/p>\n

The experimental, shoegazy rock band They Are Gutting a Body of Water have offered up another taste of Lotto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

NATION OF LANGUAGE \u2013 \u201cIN YOUR HEAD\u201d<\/p>\n

Nation of Language\u2019s new album Dance Called Memory<\/a> is out in one month and they\u2019ve just shared a new single from it. \u201cIn Your Head\u201d is a bit of a slow burn, simmering along till it finally reaches a rolling boil.<\/p>\n

JEFF TWEEDY \u2013 \u201cFEEL FREE\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe freedom I\u2019m talking about in this song comes in both small doses and large doses,\u201d says Jeff Tweedy of \u201cFeel Free\u201d from his upcoming triple album Twilight Override<\/a>. \u201cIt arrives at me, at the most free I feel in my life. Which is making a record with my friends and singing a song that I feel like is a part of the past, present and future.\u201d<\/p>\n

MAC DEMARCO \u2013 \u201cPHANTOM\u201d<\/p>\n

For all his burping and rude jokes, Mac DeMarco\u2019s a softie at heart. \u201cPhantom\u201d is sweet and pretty. New album Guitar<\/a> is out this week.<\/p>\n

HAND HABITS \u2013 \u201cBLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS\u201d<\/p>\n

\u200b\u201dOne day my partner asked what birdsong we were hearing through the window and I was like, \u200b\u2019well that\u2019s the bluebird of happiness obviously,\u200b\u2019 and it became a joke song I would sing around the house, but then it grew wings\u200b.\u201d Meg Duffy says when asked about the late single from upcoming album Blue Reminder<\/a>. \u201cI also got curious about the history of \u200bthe bluebird of happiness,\u200b and found that it has mythological significance. It\u2019s interesting how a symbol like that functions subconsciously, or in the collective unconscious. Even when we might not know everything about its origins, or when it\u2019s almost become a pop cliche, maybe there\u2019s some essence or a through-line that can remain true. Or the cliche itself can become material to play with. And I think because I can have an aversion to sentimentality in my songwriting, it felt exciting and fun to go there. And it does feel like such a hopeful song to me, though this bluebird has definitely seen some things, which is reflected in the production too.\u200b\u201d<\/p>\n

PAZ LENCHANTIN \u2013 \u201cHANG TOUGH\u201d<\/p>\n

Paz Lenchantin, who\u2019s played in Pixies, A Perfect Circle and Zwan, has announced new solo album Triste, out October 17 on her own imprint, Hideous Human Records. She says, \u201cWhat was special to me in making this album was that I learned who I am, this far into my journey in music, simply by allowing myself the freedom of my own choice. It became like witnessing a fallen tree in my own forest, without the need to yell \u2018timber.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Australian hardcore band No Apologies are releasing their first album in over 15 years, Life, next week (8\/29) via Last Ride Records, and new single \u201cGrief\u201d features Jem Siow of the current fast-rising band in Australian hardcore, Speed.<\/p>\n

Soul Blind have announced their first album for Closed Casket Activities, Red Sky Mourning, due out on October 10. The band have never been shy about wearing their \u201990s influences on their sleeves, and new single \u201cHide Your Evil\u201d channels that decade\u2019s dark, heavy alt-metal\u2013the press release cites Helmet, Quicksand, and Adrenaline\/Around the Fur-era Deftones.<\/p>\n
