The animal quickly runs out into the yard as the girl darts back to the front door.<\/p>\n<p>Watch: Black bear surprises girl in drivewayWhat to do if you spot a black bear<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dep.nj.gov\/njfw\/bears\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection<\/a>, black bears are the largest land mammal in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The animals are generally wary of people, but if you encounter one, you should not approach it, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dep.nj.gov\/njfw\/bears\/bear-encounters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">agency<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what to do if you encounter a black bear, according to the NJDEP:<\/p>\n<p>Remain calm and slowly back away.Be loud and make yourself look big.Do not make direct eye contact.Do not run.\u00a0Running may trigger a chase response.Do not approach or feed bears.<\/p>\n<p>Melina Khan is a national trending reporter for USA TODAY.
