Markov was an up-and-coming star in the bodybuilding world.

New IFBB Pro Erik Markov, a future star in bodybuilding, has passed away. The news of his passing was shared over the weekend by many outlets. A cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

The news of Markov’s passing shocked the fitness community with many who knew him sharing condolences online. This includes his partner, Lucia Barahona, who shared an Instagram story over the weekend.

“I don’t feel able to do it right now, and I still haven’t processed this situation that both his family and I are going through. Out of respect for him and his family, I won’t repost anything. I’m sorry.”

Markov began working toward his Pro Card in the Classic Physique division and gained attention due to his incredible level of conditioning. He hailed from Spain, where he lived and trained as he worked to achieve his goals in bodybuilding. Markov became known around his community for his work on stage but also his willingness to help others create the best version of themselves.

Erik Markov’s Career in Bodybuilding

Markov was able to turn his overall passion for fitness into a career. He put together the best physique possible for the 2025 season as he hoped to achieve his Pro Card.

This happened in May as he was victorious during the NPC Worldwide Amateur Olympia Spain. Markov earned his second victory of the year after winning the NPC Worldwide Top Tan Classic Regional. Both victories came in Classic Physique, where he had high hopes of bringing his well-rounded physique into the division at a high level.

Markov’s passing continues an unfortunate string of deaths in the bodybuilding community. This includes Craig Licker, who enjoyed a career that spanned across two decades. It began during the NPC Nationals and USA Championships in 1994. He won the Middleweight title at the event, earning his Pro Card, which was a great accomplishment at the time when few were handed out.

Barahona continued her message and hopes that others remember Erik Markov for the person that he was.

“Thank you for all the messages of support and encouragement. Right now, I can’t attend to everything because I need to heal everything that’s happened. Thank you, and I hope he is always remembered for the wonderful person he is.”
