Pete Davidson leaves the ‘sharks’ gobsmacked as he asks for an eye-watering $500,000 investment for his sock venture in the new season of Shark Tank – despite having a reported net worth of $4million.

The Saturday Night Live comedian, 31, makes a surprise appearance in the show’s upcoming season 17 premiere alongside DoubleSoul founder, Ben Rosenbaum.

In a sneak preview, sharks Robert Herjavec, Lori Greiner and Kevin O’Leary and guest stars Kendra Scott and Rashaun Williams are flabbergasted as they see Pete walk into the tank.

Pete’s friend and entrepreneur is the first to introduce himself.

‘Hey, sharks. I’m Ben from New York,’ he says, per People.

Taking the floor, father-to-be Pete, who serves as the brand’s creative director, adds, ‘Hi, I’m Pete, and we are seeking $500,000 for four per cent for our company, DoubleSoul.’

Going on to explain the brand, he adds: ‘You know, you usually get socks in Foot Locker,’ Pete continues. ‘There’s that big bin. You get a 20 pack. They’re kind of lifeless.’

Ben stresses that the product isn’t an athletic sock or a novelty sock.

‘We took the best of both worlds and created the perfect everyday sock,’ he explains.

In another attempt to reel in the sharks, Pete says: ‘I get sent a lot of crap, and I usually give it to my cousins.

‘I got sent DoubleSoul [socks] a couple years ago, and I had to meet the team, and I wanted to be involved immediately.’

‘Alright, sharks, we picked out some great pairs for you guys to try,’ Ben adds. ‘Excited to see what you guys think.’

Shark Tank fans will have to wait until the season premieres on September 24 to find out if the business partners were able to secure investment.

Doublesoul proudly describe their products as ‘creative, expressive basics that feel incredible, look great, and are easy on the planet’.

It stocks a range of different styles of socks, from Pilates grip socks to ultrahigh socks.

Pete was appointed creative director of Doublesoul in December.

Speaking about his role at the time, he told W Magazine: ‘Everyone needs socks.

‘Socks are an afterthought: You get a 20-pack at Foot Locker, or you’re going to the gas station and buying Barbie socks, or socks with burgers on them.’

‘They’re comfy and sexy, and the name is cool,’ he added.

‘A lot of people come to me with [partnership requests], and I’m like, this seems interesting, but I don’t really know how to do it.’
