Millions of Aussies who receive Centrelink payments will get a much-welcome boost in their bank accounts from tomorrow.
Pensioners, carers, students, single parents, and job seekers are among those who will benefit from indexation, which comes into effect this Saturday.
The aim is to help recipients cover essential expenses such as rent, electricity, groceries, and healthcare during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
The age and disability support pensions, along with carer payments, will increase by $29.70 per fortnight for singles and $44.80 for couples.
Students on Youth Allowance will now be $16.20 better off and receive up to $1,027.70.
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students and apprentices will see a $12.50 rise to $793.60 per fortnight – as will single job seekers with no dependents.
Single parents will be $16.20 better off and get up to $1,039.70 fortnightly, while partnered parents will have their rate increase to $734.30.
Rent assistance payments will rise to $215.40 for singles and $203.00 for couples.
Pensioners, carers, students, single parents, and job seekers are among those who will welcome a Centrelink payment boost
‘Social security recipients are also benefitting from tax cuts, cheaper medicines, energy bill relief, cuts to student debt and a whole range of other cost of living measures we’ve delivered since coming into government,’Â Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said.
‘The social security system must be grounded in fairness, which is why we adjust supports as the economy changes.
‘We’ll continue to make sure the system is there to support those who need it most, ensuring that everyone can make ends meet and no one gets left behind.’
The payment increases will occur automatically.
Recipients can check their next payment by logging into their Centrelink online account or via the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
The indexed payments are determined twice a year, in September and March.
