An Aldi customer has claimed they found a needle in a package of mince meat – sparking an investigation from Victoria Police.
The meat was allegedly bought from a store in Keilor East in Melbourne.
It is not known yet if the find was a one-off or if other goods have been contaminated.
‘Police are investigating after a foreign object was found in meat purchased from a supermarket in Keilor East on October 2,’ a police spokesperson said.
‘In general, produce contamination — that is an item of machinery in processed food — should be reported to local councils in the first instance.’
Anyone found to be contaminating food products can be jailed for up to 10 years.
Police want to speak to anyone else who has found a dangerous item in any meat products to determine if it is a one-off or part of a wider issue.
