A new set of Pilates classes is launching in Burnham-On-Sea this month, led by experienced fitness instructor and Master Pilates Teacher Mark Parfitt Jones.
Mark, who has more than 23 years’ experience teaching Pilates at the highest level, will be starting two weekly classes from Thursday 23rd April — one at The Princess Theatre, Burnham-On-Sea (9.30–10.30am) and another at East Huntspill Village Hall (5.45–6.45pm).
He says his passion for Pilates began early in his career. “I left school to train as a fitness instructor and sports therapist but through this work discovered Pilates and fell in love with it,” he says.
“I chose to train with Body Control Pilates, a leading Pilates teacher training organisation for 30 years, and I’ve now been qualified with them for 23 years to their highest level as a Master Teacher.”
Mark holds specialist qualifications in low back pain, pre‑ and post‑natal Pilates, hypermobility, scoliosis, and working with cancer patients, including breast cancer. He also trains other teachers in Pilates for hypermobility.
His new classes will run in six‑week blocks costing £60, with group sizes limited to 12 people to ensure individual support.
“My classes are about good biomechanics and alignment to help the body move more efficiently — building flexibility, strength, performance and resilience,” he added.
Alongside his Pilates work, Mark is also an Upledger CranioSacral Therapist, trained in paediatrics, concussion and brain health, and holds a qualification in Structural Integration, a soft‑tissue treatment focused on realigning the body. He has also completed the HeartMath Trauma‑Sensitive Practitioner qualification and hopes to offer HeartMath sessions in the future.
Mark says he plans to expand his timetable over time and eventually introduce Pilates studio sessions using large equipment such as the reformer, which has grown in popularity in recent years.
