Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, also known to fans as simply “SGA,” has spent the last two years making a credible case for being the best basketball player in the world. The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award in back-to-back seasons after leading one of the league’s youngest rosters to consistent contention, cementing a rise that began when he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to Oklahoma City in 2019 and has accelerated every season since. He has been named to the All-NBA First Team multiple times and has led the league in scoring, turning the Thunder into one of the NBA’s most compelling stories in the process.
Last year, SGA made clear who he credits for sustaining that run. “I wouldn’t be the player I am, I wouldn’t be the father I am without you,” he said, addressing his wife, Hailey Summers, directly during a press conference following the 2025 MVP announcement.
Hailey tends to stay out of the spotlight. But she has been a consistent presence throughout her husband’s ascent, appearing courtside at Thunder games and occasionally surfacing in his social media. Here is what to know about her.
Hailey was a college athlete.
Like Shai, Hailey has an athletic background of her own. She played NCAA Division I soccer at the University at Albany from 2017 to 2021 and served as team captain for at least two seasons. As a defender, she played a key role in helping the Lady Great Danes win the 2018 America East Championship—their third title in four years.
After graduating, she wrote on Instagram: “5 years later.. thank you soccer for everything but most importantly thank you for bringing me the best of friends I could ask for ❤️ #2 out.”
SGA and Hailey are high school sweethearts.
Hailey and Shai met in 2017, long before his NBA career took off. A fellow Canadian and high school athlete, she dated Shai for six years before he proposed in June 2023. The couple married in February 2024.
She’s a mom.
Their first child, a son named Ares Alexander, was born on April 25, 2024. On his first birthday, Hailey shared an Instagram photo with the caption, “Happy birthday to our little man, you complete us.”
SGA and Hailey are also pet parents.
While many pet owners flood their social media accounts with animal photos, Hailey and Shai have shown considerable restraint.
But the two have a dog named Echo, and apparently Shai and Echo have matching gold chains.
She has more than 105,000 Instagram followers.
Hailey maintains a low profile, and doesn’t post to social media often. Regardless, she has attracted more 105,000 Instagram followers to date. Meanwhile, Shai, with more than 5 million Instagram followers, is very active on social media, frequently posting both photos of his family as well as magazine covers and images tied to sponsors like Canada Goose and Converse.
