Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh Wears a Diamond Brooch to Trooping the Colour 2026

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, looked ready for summer in a white short-sleeved Roland Mouret dress with a matching Jane Taylor hat for Trooping the Colour on Saturday. The Duchess arrived for the sovereign’s annual birthday celebration by horse-drawn carriage alongside Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne. The royals were all recently gathered together last weekend for the wedding of Princess Anne’s only son, Peter Phillips, to NHS nurse Harriet Sperling.

While Queen Camilla and Princess Anne are known for wearing brooches frequently, the Duchess also wore a special piece for the parade: her Diamond Rose Brooch. As noted by The Court Jeweller, Sophie has been seen wearing this bauble since the summer of 2019, which would have coincided with her 20th anniversary. Thus, it’s possible this was an anniversary present from Prince Edward. She has been seen wearing it many times since, including Garter Day in 2022 and for a state funeral in Italy where she represented her brother-in-law, King Charles.

Sophie’s husband, Prince Edward, arrived on horseback alongside the Princess Royal and Prince William. As Colonel of the Scots Guards, the Duke of Edinburgh wore the regiment’s full ceremonial uniform, along with the Thistle Star and Sash, GCVO Star, and his Coronation, Jubilee, New Zealand, and Canadian orders. As a personal aide-de-camp to the King, Edward also wore aiguilettes—ornamental braided cords worn on the shoulders—bearing the cyphers of both King Charles and his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth.

For the last few years, the Duchess has opted for solid color-block looks. For the last three years, she had also consistently worn a Beulah London dress with a Jane Taylor hat.

Sophie has had a busy start to the month. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh recently completed a three-day official tour of Portugal, marking the 640th anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor, one of the oldest diplomatic alliances in European history. The tour took the couple from Lisbon to Porto across a packed itinerary with engagements centered around technology, women’s empowerment, and the centuries-old royal ties between Britain and Portugal. Kicking off in Lisbon, the pair were welcomed by city Mayor Carlos Moedas with a tour of the Jardim de Estrela. The couple also rode one of Lisbon’s historic trams.

The royal trip later included a stop at the Batalha Monastery, where the Duke and Duchess paid their respects at the tombs of King João I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster, the English princess whose 1387 marriage to João I cemented the alliance the tour was commemorating. In Porto, the royals received the keys to the city at Porto Town Hall before touring Porto Cathedral, the site of that same royal wedding more than six centuries ago. Prince Edward also visited the Oporto British School, where students were preparing for expeditions as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for youth in volunteering and non-formal education.
