Princess Alexandra, Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin, was not in attendance for Trooping the Colour today. She has not participated in a Trooping balcony appearance since 2022, when the event also served as a celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. Her older brother, the Duke of Kent, was at Trooping the Colour today, along with other senior members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
At 89, Princess Alexandra is the only living granddaughter of King George V. She has significantly scaled back her royal engagements in recent years. In April, she made a rare appearance at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s birth, and was spotted arriving for King Charles’s Christmas luncheon at the Palace in December.

At the time of her birth, Princess Alexandra, the daughter of Prince George (King George V and Queen Mary’s fourth son) and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, was sixth in line to the British throne. She is now 58th in the line of succession.

Last summer, Princess Alexandra’s immediate family made a public appearance at the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Her grandson, Alexander Ogilvy, graduated from Sandhurst, and she was joined by her son, James Ogilvy, her daughter-in-law Julia Ogilvy, and her granddaughter Flora Vesterberg. Flora announced in January she and husband Timothy Vesterberg were expecting their first child, which will be Princess Alexandra’s first great-grandchild.
