The calibre of confectionary has gone totally wild at the Show.

Triple-layered creations and incredible animal replicas have taken the cake at this year’s Melbourne Royal Show’s Art, Craft & Cookery awards.

Victorian Mary Lee who created and baked an intricate Giraffe cake (picture) said: “As an amateur cake decorator that grew up in Bendigo, winning the Best in Show award for a second time is a dream come true.

“After seeing giraffes in real life, I set myself the challenge of bringing the idea to life as a cake.”

Senior Manager Show Competitions Martin Garoni was blown away by the standard of submissions.

“We had a record number of over 3,000 entries in this year’s Melbourne Royal Art, Craft and Cookey competition,” Mr Garoni said

“The quality and variety of this year’s exhibits were wonderful, and we’re so glad that we have a dedicated place for all visitors to the Melbourne Royal Show to come and celebrate these incredible works.”

It comes as Melbourne Royal announced it is offering a new school holiday super saver ticket where adults can attend at children’s’ prices.

For Thursday and Friday, adults can enter for $27, nearly 50 per cent off.

Melbourne Royal Show Executive GM Hannah von Bibra said the special release was an opportunity for more people to experience a full day and night and see everything on offer.

“Getting closer to animals and agriculture, watching blue-ribbon competition and live entertainment … the Melbourne Royal Show is where country and city come together,” she said.

“We want to give even more Victorians the chance to come and experience all the fun and create wonderful lifelong memories.”
