Hundreds of visitors and staff at Sydney‘s Luna Park were evacuated after the popular theme park received a mysterious ‘threat’.

A police operation at the iconic harbourside landmark at Milson’s Point ended about 5pm Saturday, after dozens of people were seen exiting the venue.

The operation concluded without incident, with no threat to the public.

‘There was a threat received but there was nothing to suggest it was legitimate,’ a NSW Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail.

‘The area was evacuated as a precaution; however, all people have now returned.

‘There is no threat to the community.’

Visitors and staff spilled out into neighbouring parks and roads after they were ordered to evacuate.

Photos showed confused visitors crowding around Milsons Point.

Guests were left in the dark and later flooded Luna Park’s social media pages seeking a reason for the evacuation.

‘Why has Luna Park been evacuated?’ a woman asked.

‘When will we be able to get our car out of the car park?’ another added.

‘We spent over $600 and got evacuated,’ a third said.

‘Is there any chance we can get a credit to come back?’

Daily Mail has contacted Luna Park for comment.
