A popular Sydney cafe has come under fire after outraged customers revealed the shocking price of a beloved breakfast staple.
Lane Cove National Park Cafe, located on Sydney’s lower north shore, has been exposed for charging a whopping $17.50 for a bacon and egg roll.
An outraged customer, who shared an image of the menu to social media on Sunday, accused the cafe of being the ‘world record’ holder for the priciest bacon and egg roll.
‘Can anyone find a place (that) beats this (price) for (a bacon and egg roll)?’, they wrote alongside the post.
Other exorbitant orders include a $27 garden salad, a $16.50 ham and cheese croissant, and the hot chips, with a $12 small serving or $20 for a large order.
Viewers of the post were particularly incensed by the price of the hot chips, with one user remarking the saying, ‘cheap as chips’, no longer applies.
‘It’s honestly getting ridiculous at these cafes for mediocre food too,’ one viewer wrote.
‘The worlds (sic) gone mad,’ another added.

Lane Cove National Park Cafe, located on Sydney’s lower north shore, has taken fire over its $17.50 bacon and egg roll, $20 large hot chips and $27 garden salad
Others pointed out the $8 mark-up for a large order of hot chips was unjustified given the containers, pictured in the photo, appear similarly sized.
‘$20 for a large one is a joke!!! My local has a large chips for $10 and it is easily double that size,’ one viewer wrote.
‘I had to do a double-take’, another said, adding: ’20 bucks for that size? Massive rip off.’
Sympathetic viewers pointed out the cafe sits in the middle of a national park, the kind of location that typically attracts a mark-up.
Some even said they’d visited the cafe before and enjoyed the food.
But the discovery adds to fears staples like the classic bacon and egg roll and barista-made coffee have become luxuries most Australian’s simply cannot afford.
Recent data from Square shows Australians are forking out more than $1 on average for their standard coffee orders compared to six years ago.
Average costs per cup in some capital cities have risen by more than $2 over that period, while a number of popular orders can be expected to fetch about $7.

Meanwhile, data compiled by the Australian Financial Review suggested the average cost of mains, starters and desserts in popular Aussie restaurants have all risen by around 25 per cent since early 2022.
Hospitality venues say rising utilities, food and operating costs are being passed on to consumers as their profit margins are pressed thin.
The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose three per cent in the year to August.
The increase remains higher than many other categories measured in the consumer price index, underscoring ongoing pressure on household budgets.
And with many economists concerned inflation may soon begin to heat up, it seems likely Australia’s dining woes will continue.
