A tennis club is set to become Kent’s newest David Lloyd health club.

Bosses at the popular gym chain have revealed they have acquired Avenue Tennis Club in Gillingham and plan to redevelop the site later this year.

The centre in Fetherby Road offers a wide range of racquets, fitness, spa and wellness facilities, but David Lloyd says it will “take them to the next level”.

It plans to incorporate the latest workout tech in the gym, professional tennis and swim coaching for children, an extensive range of group exercise classes and luxury spa retreat facilities.

Bosses hope that the proposals will enhance the offerings at the club for existing and new members.

Property director of David Lloyd Clubs, Stuart Caswell, said: “We are delighted to welcome Avenue Tennis and all its members to David Lloyd Clubs.

“It is already a thriving community with a fantastic range of facilities, but we look forward to investing further into the club, helping residents in Gillingham and the surrounding area to enjoy happier, healthier lives.

“This is an exciting time as we continue our growth plans across the UK and particularly our development in Kent.

“This will be our sixth club in Kent. We are excited to become further embedded in the community.”

Owner of Avenue Tennis, Colin Jarvis, added: “I am genuinely pleased that we have achieved a successful transaction with David Lloyd Leisure and they will now take the club forward with significant investment and ambition for Medway and our members.

“We designed and built Avenue Tennis with hard work, commitment, and pride, and to give something back to Medway so that children, families, and players of all ages could enjoy tennis in a supportive and welcoming place.

“I am confident David Lloyd Clubs will respect what has been built here and take it to an even higher standard.”

Avenue Tennis’ existing employees will be kept on by David Lloyd as the gym joins its estate of 137 clubs across Europe.
