He was the face of fitness and aerobics for a generation – and now Mr Motivator is coming to South Bristol for an entire day of public workout classes.
Mr Motivator is set to be the star attraction at a day-long fitness extravaganza at the Park Centre in Knowle West, which will see him take classes as people get involved in everything from ‘clubbercise’ with glo-sticks in a disco room to seated fitness class led by an instructor with cerebral palsy.
The star of GMTV in the 1990s, Mr Motivator – real name Derrick Evans – is a household name for a generation of Britons, and is reputed to have sold the most fitness DVDs in the UK.
He was awarded an MBE in 2020 and has made something of a comeback during and since the Covid pandemic, with regular TV appearances.
The fitness event in Knowle West is called Remix Fitness Festival – it will take place on June 6, and Mr Motivator will be there all day as 13 different classes take place.
The event is being organised by Amanda Pickstock from Revive Fitness Classes. It was staged last year, without Mr Motivator, and was a huge success.
“Mr Motivator will be appearing with his own fitness session and spending the day at the event,” said Amanda. “We will be promoting getting active, with 13 different 30-minute varied fitness sessions, from Clubbercise with Glow sticks in a disco room to Rockbox Fitness with Drumsticks.
“We have seated fitness with local West Country girl Sam James, who is a disabled fitness instructor with Cerebral Palsy. She will be delivering her Inclusit session. Plus, there will be many other National Fitness brand and local talent running sessions on the day.
“Mr Motivator will be doing a talk about ‘staying fit and taking care of yourself as you age’ and we will be attracting over 200 people locally and from across the country,” she added.
The 73-year-old recently launched a Bed Bank Charity, and will be appearing a day after the launch of a charity single for this cause that he recorded with drag queen Latina Ballroom.
“We ran this event without Mr M last year and it was a great success with people age 16 to 76 taking part, so this year is going to be bigger and better. It’s a real success story for Knowle and our little fitness business,” Amanda added.
