Martha Stewart and Drew Barrymore have swatted aside the feud rumors that have been swirling around them for months.

The conjecture kicked off when Martha appeared on Drew’s talk show last November and found herself confronted with the hostess’ signature gimmick.

Drew is known for her oleaginous behavior with her guests, kneeling in front of them and hugging them in exchanges that have viewers cringing.

When Martha, 84, was on the show last year, Drew, 50, tried caressing her shoulder, only for the lifestyle guru to tartly push her hand away.

Viewers seized on the awkward moment as evidence of bad blood between the pair – but Martha went back on Drew’s show this week and shot down the speculation.

‘Now people thought that we had beef, or you had beef with me over that, and I didn’t get it. I was so surprised,’ said Drew, to which Martha made a bemused face and said: ‘Oh, I just don’t like to be petted on television.’

‘Understood, Martha, I won’t pet again,’ said Drew with playfully exaggerated disappointment, as her guest doubled down: ‘Okay, do not pet me.’

Martha added: ‘I watched your show and you pet a lot of people,’ then asked the audience: ‘She’s a very cozy girl, don’t you think? I’m not so cozy.’

When she went on the show in November, Drew asked her what ‘makes you feel soft and gooey,’ and Martha replied: ‘Soft and gooey treatment.’

At that point Drew started stroking Martha’s shoulder, acting mock flirtatious and asking: ‘Soft and gooey treatment? When you’re treated like a lady?’

Not long into the shoulder massage, Martha brushed Drew’s hand off her, admonishing her that ‘you’re the wrong gender.’

‘I know, I know,’ said the granddaughter of John Barrymore. ‘Although, the way it’s going with men though, Martha, I’m not so sure anymore.’

Drew has previously acknowledged how ‘touchy’ she is on TV, admitting that some guests have even warned her to ‘back off,’ leaving her wondering: ‘Why?’

Even self-described ‘hugger’ Meghan Markle appeared on the show and delivered a cheeky barb about how handsy Drew is: ‘I hear you like to connect.’

Last year, Drew shared that ‘I’ll try to practice physical distance, which is not my strong point,’ speaking to Entertainment Tonight.

She connected her on-air behavior to the fact that her talk-show premiered in September 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdowns.

‘You know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself. I like to be around people. It’s not everyone’s favorite, but I’m sorry to those people.’

She added: ‘I think that first of all we’re always gonna be big on joy and laughter and feeling good, and that was something I always wanted to do, but I never thought we would launch in a pandemic, and trying to lean into the joy and the feel good and the comedy at that time was real weird and wacky.’
