Ahead of its release later this week, the film Sisu: Road to Revenge has landed itself a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised it for its inventive and fast-paced action, and for being a sequel that improves upon the original.

Finnish actor Jorma Tommila reprises the role of Aatami Korpi from the 2022 first film, Sisu, with Avatar’s Stephen Lang and Game of Thrones’ Richard Brake joining the cast.

The plot follows Korpi as he returns to the home of his murdered family, dismantles it and loads it into the truck, with the intention of driving somewhere safe where he can rebuild it as a monument to their memory.

Igor Draganov, the man who killed Korpi’s family, learns what he is doing, and sets out to finish the job.

A cross-country chase ensues, but can Korpi evade his pursuer and honour his family?

The film will be released this Friday in the UK and the US, but critics have already had the chance to see it and publish their reviews. From 28 write-ups, it has a incredibly strong 96% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Much of Road to Revenge plays like a spectacularly gory silent film, with Aatami taking out scores of Red Army soldiers in action scenes that are as inventive as they are incredibly funny,” wrote Slant Magazine, while Bloody Disgusting compared it to the recent Mad Max movies.

RogerEbert.com called the film “pretty special” and wrote: “Road to Revenge reimagines everything that worked about Sisu, but it does what an action sequel should do and builds on it instead of just repeating the same barely-controlled chaos.”

“Gore-soaked and unbelievably bloody, this will make you wince, gasp and cheer for the little guy,” Empire said. “Another authoritarian regime is in for a bad day, and that’s a lovely thing to watch.”

Sisu: Road to Revenge will be released in UK and US cinemas this Friday. The first film can be bought or rented digitally, and is available on disc.
