Emmerdale spoilers follow from Tuesday’s episode (9 December), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Emmerdale answers one of the biggest fan questions tonight – why don’t Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk seek help from Cain to get rid of Ray Walters and Celia Daniels? Fans have been calling for the bad boy of the Dingles to intervene and save Marlon’s family from their ongoing ordeal, but there’s been no mention of him in the story… until now.
In tonight’s episode, Rhona finally raises the possibility of Cain sorting things out, as her desperate husband Marlon considers paying off Ray and Celia once and for all.
Ray and Celia are still determined to keep using April for drugs jobs, regardless of what Marlon and Rhona think about it. They’ve warned Marlon and Rhona that their family won’t be safe if they keep interfering – and since Ray recently ran over Dylan Penders, they know to take him seriously.
After an attempt to flee from the village didn’t work, Marlon is now considering paying off April’s supposed “debt” so that Ray and Celia leave her alone. But Rhona has other ideas…

“There is an alternative – we tell Cain,” Rhona suggests.
When Marlon stubbornly refuses to consider it, Rhona replies: “But he’d make mincemeat of Ray. You know he would.
“It wouldn’t just be Cain – he could get some of the family from Ireland to back him up. And Ross?”
Marlon digs his heels in, insisting that he doesn’t want to endanger any more loved ones – especially as they don’t know how big Ray and Celia’s operation is and what they’re dealing with.

Unfortunately for him, though, events may be taken out of his hands. Cain gets suspicious off his own back when he discovers that Marlon wants to sell his car for some quick cash.
Cain is also alarmed when he walks in on Ray threatening Marlon, although Marlon makes excuses over the reasons why. At least for now…
So, how long can Marlon keep Cain in the dark for? Is it only a matter of time before we see Cain take on Ray and Celia? Could we even get a rare Cain and Rhona scene, played by real-life couple Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry?

One person we do know who’ll be getting involved soon is Ross, as Michael Parr teased in a recent chat with Inside Soap‘s weekly Soap Scoop podcast.
“I think that is starting to be released in the scripts soon,” Michael explained. “So I don’t know what’s going on with it, but we’ve [Ross and April] always had a connection.”
He added: “I imagine when Ross does find out, there’s going to be hell to pay. I love working with Joe [Absolom, who plays Ray] and Jaye [Griffiths, who plays Celia] as well.”
The NSPCC, Childline and FRANK offer support and resources for the issues raised in April and Dylan’s storyline.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
