Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the series carries a healthy dose of nostalgia thanks to a leading performance from Noah Wiley, an alum from the ultimate OG medical drama, E.R.
Adolescence

Adolescence became a global phenomenon following its premiere on Netflix this spring. A gut-wrenchingly intimate look into the environments that fuel youth incel culture, the limited series covers the events in the aftermath of a tragic stabbing of a teen girl—allegedly at the hands of her 13-year-old classmate. The show’s star, 15-year-old Owen Cooper, made Emmy history earlier this year as the youngest male actor to take home awards across all categories.

The White Lotus
HBO
The beauty of The White Lotus is that every season is different. For the HBO hit’s third outing, Mike White transported us to the island of Thailand, where the usual murder-on-vacation plot was bolstered by friendship drama, financial shenanigans, and Parker Posey slurring “Lorazepam” in an instantly memeable North Carolina accent.
Pluribus

From the mind of Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, Pluribus is a thrilling new sci-fi drama starring Rhea Seahorn as Carol, a disgruntled (albeit successful) romance writer who is one of only a handful of people to escape a global virus that turned all of Earth into a blissful, 24/7 hive-mind. The series asks the question: Would we be happier if we were all the same? The answer: probably not.

Severance

There’s no doubt season two of Severance was worth the wait. Even with a three-year hiatus between seasons, viewers were still locked in to witnessing the psychological inner-workings of Lumon Industries and the ongoing emotional battle between the Innies and Outies.

Seth Rogen’s Emmy-winning AppleTV+ series The Studio is a smart, hilarious satire of the Hollywood movie-making machine. Come for Rogen and co.’s slapstick portrayal of seasoned film industry vets, but stay for the countless celebrity cameos from Zoe Kravitz, Olivia Wilde, Charlize Theron, and more.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

This year, there were few shows bigger than The Summer I Turned Pretty. The third and final season of Jenny Han’s romantic trilogy captured the cultural zeitgeist, propellimg its core characters into the canon of on-screen love triangles. As if bringing in over 70 million viewers over the summer wasn’t enough, the story of Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah will continue with a full-length film, also helmed by Han.
I Love LA

We have Rachel Sennott to thank for a new comedy that perfectly captures the zillennial generation. I Love LA follows a group of four friends: an overly eager junior publicist (Sennott), a directionless influencer (Odessa A’Zion), a celebrity stylist (Jordan Firstman), and—appropriate for a show about Los Angeles—a nepo baby played by a real-life nepo baby (True Whitaker). Together, they aim to survive the city’s clout-chasing olympics.
