Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale’s Mary Goskirk returns to the village next week – but it’s not a happy homecoming as her desperate daughter Rhona plots to get rid of her again. Mary is oblivious to the danger that’s unfolding for her terrified family, but will she ever find out what’s going on?
Viewers know that Mary has been away on a short break in Cornwall recently, so has missed all of the drama surrounding her granddaughter April Windsor’s drug dealing. Mary headed off just days before Rhona and Marlon discovered that April had been forced into becoming a worker for Ray Walters and Celia Daniels.
Next week, Mary makes her return but Rhona is terrified that her mum’s inquisitive mind will lead to major trouble.
If Mary figures out the horrible truth about Ray and Celia, it seems that she’ll be the next person to face utter misery as the evil pair continue to make threats.

“Rhona knows that her mum is no fool,” our Emmerdale source explains. “April did manage to keep her dealing secret for months, but with the situation at home now so tense, it’s highly unlikely that Mary won’t notice.
“In an ideal world, Rhona would be welcoming Mary home for a perfect family Christmas – especially after the grief they faced over April’s disappearance last year. But that now seems impossible…”
Rhona refuses to let Mary become the next person in Ray’s firing line, so she privately vows to find a way to get her mother out of the village again. Wasting no time, Rhona suggests that Mary should move out.
“Mary’s baffled when Rhona raises the suggestion of her leaving,” our source continues. “Despite some initial tension when Mary first arrived, they’ve since spent a long time living harmoniously together.

“Rhona’s plan threatens to backfire when Mary immediately gets suspicious, but this only drives her to even more desperate measures.”
Refusing to back down but feeling unable to share the truth, Rhona finds herself saying something that could wreck her relationship with Mary forever.
“Rhona hates herself for hurting Mary’s feelings,” our insider says. “But she thinks the alternative is even worse. If Mary moves out following a row, at least she’ll be safe. But has Rhona done enough to hose down Mary’s suspicions that something isn’t right?”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
