Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has confirmed a traumatic Christmas ahead for Todd Grimshaw as Theo Silverton traps him in a fake celebration. With his anguish already at its peak, will Todd finally reveal the truth to his loved ones?

Last night’s special episode saw a shocking development in the couple’s domestic abuse storyline, as Todd reached his breaking point with his boyfriend. After months of controlling and aggressive behaviour, Todd finally hit back – landing himself in trouble with the police, and Theo in hospital.

Though neither of the pair revealed the truth to the authorities, Todd insisted he now wanted out of the relationship, causing another angry outburst from Theo.

Viewers were left fearing for Todd’s safety as the episode’s cliffhanger ending saw the scaffolder discovering the cameras hidden around the flat.

Despite Todd’s attempts to end the relationship, things will continue to escalate between the couple in the build-up to Christmas.

In scenes that will air on Christmas Eve (24 December), Theo tries to pretend things are perfectly normal with him and Todd, following their recent conflict. As usual, he turns on the charm to patch over his latest outburst.

When Theo brings up Christmas plans, dejected Todd quickly changes the subject to work – resulting in even more tension at the flat.

In another calculated act, Theo returns home with bags full of shopping and tells Todd he’s invited all of their friends over for Christmas dinner. He orders Todd to do the cooking for the big day.

But will Todd go along with the plan, or could the dinner be his chance to fully expose Theo’s abuse?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
