The Chase star Anne Hegerty has provided an exciting update on the upcoming spin-off series The Chase Around the World. With a brand-new format, this could invigorate the long-running quiz franchise.

The spin-off, which was announced last month, sees host Bradley Walsh return alongside the six Chasers as prospective quizzers hope to beat the lot and win an enormous cash prize.

As opposed to working in teams of four, the series will consist of six pairs, with each attempting to work out where a Chaser is located by answering questions correctly. The last two pairs to reach the mark will then go head-to-head, with the loser being eliminated.

With excitement ramping up, Hegerty, who is known by her moniker of ‘The Governess’ in the ITV series, teased that filming on the spin-off would be getting under way in the not-so-distant future.

“We’re filming a new spin-off show in May,” she told The Mirror. “I can’t say too much, but it involves the Chasers travelling around and people having to try and work out where we are and who we are.”

Hegerty, who has appeared on the series since 2010, also confirmed that they would be filming the next season of the main series in the coming weeks, while the next season of spin-off Beat the Chasers has already been filmed.

Following the announcement of The Chase Around the World, Walsh said in a statement: “This bold new take on The Chase combines quizzing with travelling and will test contestants’ knowledge like never before.”

“The Chasers are already famous around the world, so fans can look forward to seeing them ply their trade in some superb secret locations,” added the presenter, who has hosted the series since its premiere in 2009.

“The Chase Around the World is a fittingly global evolution for an iconic format, developed and being produced by a great team,” said Lily Wilson of Bright Entertainment. “We look forward to launching the series later this year.”

The Chase airs on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
